Story line
Carietta “Carrie” White, a girl ostracized by her peers, endures relentless bullying from the popular group led by the merciless Chris Hargensen. At home, she faces both verbal and physical abuse from her excessively religious mother, Margaret White. During a particularly humiliating incident at school, Carrie is tormented by Chris and her classmates when she experiences her first menstruation, until Ms. Desjardin intervenes. On that same day, Carrie uncovers her extraordinary abilities. Meanwhile, one of the students, Sue Snell, feels guilt over the incident and persuades her boyfriend, Tommy Ross, to accompany Carrie to the prom.
